Dr. Fred McKinney is the President of the Connecticut Minority Supplier Development Council (CMSDC). The CMSDC is an affiliate of the National Minority Supplier Development Council. Members of the CMSDC are national and Connecticut based corporations who have expressed an interest in increasing the ethic and racial diversity of their support base.

Dr. McKinney is also a partner in the consulting firm of Bobo, Jaynes and McKinney (BJM). BJM provides economic and financial research services to large and small organizations .

Dr. McKinney is an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Connecticut School Business Administration. He has been a member of the faculty since 1987. Dr. McKinney teaches economic analysis, forecasting, statistics entrepreneurship and courses on quality and courses on quality and competitive analysis in the MBA program.

Dr. McKinney has served as a consultant to the Clinton administration. Dr. McKinney also served as a member of the faculty on the GE Capital Small Business College in Stamford, Connecticut and New York City. Dr. McKinney has consulted with Norwalk Housing Authority, the Mid-Fairfield Human Services Foundation, the Stamford Chamber of Commerce, The Sable Group, Hall neighborhood House, CTE, and numerous corporations in Connecticut. In 1996, Dr. McKinney was honored as the Stamford Chamber of Commerce’s Member of the Year’s award.

Dr. McKinney taught at Brandeis University’s Heller School for Advanced Studies in Social Welfare from 1983 to 1987. At Brandeis, he taught courses in health care policy and economic analysis. At Brandeis University, the Commonwealth Fund of New York supported Dr. McKinney. He published a book "Guiding Educational and Career Choices in Allied Health and Nursing." While at Brandeis, Dr. McKinney also published several articles on African American employment and federal government employment and training policies.
